Virtual Fax FAQ
In order to set up a virtual fax, navigate to your virtual fax lines located under the Manage lines tab in the customer portal.
Click on the SETTINGS button to the right of the virtual fax line. The screenshot below illustrates this.
Once you navigate to Virtual Fax Settings, you'll see three options in the upper navigation, as seen below:
1. Settings
Setting up Email to Receive Faxes:
Under the heading “Inbound Fax to Email”, enter up to five email addresses (enter one email at a time, pressing the add button after each) to receive all inbound faxes sent to your fax number.
Setting up Email to Send Faxes:
Under “Outbound Email to Fax”, enter up to five email addresses (enter one email at a time, pressing the add button after each) authorized to be used to send virtual faxes from your number.
2. Send Fax
Options for Sending Faxes:
Option 1: Send a Fax Using Your Email
Under the “Send Fax” tab, two ways to send a fax using email are given:
- Create a new email.
- In the e-mail header, enter fax@magicjackforbusiness.com as the recipient.
- In the subject line, enter the number you would like to fax. Note: Only enter the 10-digits, no dashes or parenthesis.
- To create a cover sheet, use the email formatting standards seen below. The diagram below shows how you should set up the body of your email. Please use this format exactly as written in order for the fax to send properly.
- Attach a single PDF file to the email, if desired. Note: Our fax supports only PDF formats.
- Press send. A delivery confirmation or error email will be sent to you in return
Option 2. Send a Fax using Online Wizard:
This option allows you to use the online wizard in order to generate the format of the email for you. In order to use this option, you must have an email application installed and set as default on your computer. In order to set up a default email application, follow the instructions found in the links below.
- Set a default email app on Mac
- Set a default email app on Windows
Follow these steps to use the wizard to send a fax:
- Fill out the sender information, receiver information, and the subject box, which will be added as the Re: section in the body of the email.
- Once all the information is filled out, click the “Send Fax via Email” button, which will open your default email application on your computer.
- In your email program, you will see the information from the wizard has been placed in the proper locations.
- Add your cover page information. If you would like to add a message, please add it before the two forward slashes in the body of the email.
- Next, you can attach one PDF attachment to be sent as the content of your fax. Note: Our fax supports only PDF formats.
3. E911
The last part of configuring your Virtual Fax line is to add the necessary information to the E911 tab. Fill in the boxes under the E911 Address heading. This allows emergency response services to have the information they need in order to respond in the event of an emergency. Without it, there will be no location information linked to this phone number. It is the customer's responsibility to keep this information updated and accurate.
